- Size the column using initial design
- Calculate axial load and bending moment using appropriate analysis method (NEd, Mtop and Mbottom).
- Find the effective length (lo).
- Find the first order moments (Mo1 and Mo2)
- Find the slenderness ( λ = lo/i, λ = 3.46*lo/h for rectangular column and λ = 4*lo/d for circular column, h and d are the overall depth and column diameter respectively )
- Find the slenderness limit λlim
- If λ ≤ λlim column is slender.
- Find Kr (correction factor which depends on axial load)
- Calculate Kϕ (factor which takes creep into account)
- Then calculate e2.
- Find M2 = NEd*e2
- Find Moe and MEd
- Find steel area using column charts. Go to step 8 again and repeat the same until the steel area, which assumed in step 8, become similar.
Design of reinforced concrete structures, steel structures, foundations, geotechnical designs, construction materials, structural failures, etc. is discussed.
