BS 8110 to Eurocode 2
- Structural design to eurocode is not straight forward. There is no specifically mention procedure to design to structural elements such as beams, slabs, etc. it's only have given how to design for shear, bending, torsion, etc, but there are books which describes the design of structural element for eurocode 2.
- Characteristic cylinder strength is used for the designs.
- Required characteristic yield strength of steel is 500N/mm2.
- Partial safety of steel has increased form 1.05 to 1.15.
- Checking deflection for serviceability is almost similar.
- Reinforcement arrangement of Indirect supports where beams are not supported on column or wall, has been introduced.
- New procedure is introduced to calculate the cover to the reinforcement.
- Factors of load combinations have changed, and they can be selected according to load and load type.
- Load combinations are bit complex
- x/d ratio has increased from 0.5 to 0.6, but national annexture recommends x/d = 0.45 as the balance condition.
- Design for shear has changed completely. Strut inclination method is used.
- Design of columns is more complex than BS 8110.
